The chapel of Maria del Remei, meaning \u2018remedy\u2019 and referring to her healing power, is constructed adjacent to the castle. The connection between Castell d\u2019Empord\u00e0 and Napoleon is Albert himself. It took him nearly 20 years to build Europe\u2019s biggest scale model of the Battle of Waterloo that now can be found in the heart of the castle. The 18 square metre representation includes 2000 toy soldiers and about 500 horses, all of which are hand-painted.<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea for the scale model stems back to Albert\u2019s family history. His great-great-grandfather was a veteran of Napoleon\u2019s Grande Arm\u00e9e and kept a diary of his adventures with the emperor. Albert also built a model of Castell d\u2019Empord\u00e0 being sieged in the 11th century, which is presented on the first floor right above the hotel reception.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
